New Zealand Tui
The New Zealand Tui bird is a wide spread Native species which often draws attention to itself by having a distinctive vocal range.
The plumage is unusual, often appearing to be black in colour except for the small tuft of feathers at its neck. On closer inspection it can be seen that the Tui has a range of colours.
The Tui is a popular subject which appeals to many. I am fortunate to have a kowhai tree on my property and when in full bloom the Tuis pays us a visit to drink the sweet flower nectar.
I have created this piece on a French oak wine barrel stave.
For this piece I have used Acrylic paint and finished with a satin varnish.
For interior display only.
Approximately 64cm long x 7.5cm wide x 3cm thickness.
